CREATIONISM VS. EVOLUTIONISM

How was the world created and how did life begin? These are questions everyone has asked at some point, right? Well, there are basically 2 answers- the Truth from God and the lies from the world. With that said, we need to understand that there is no way to physically prove either answer as there is no one around to ask who was alive when it all happened. So, we must have faith and trust in the source of the explanation we choose to believe. For believers, this is simple:

Hebrews 11:3 “By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.”

Creationism is defined as “
the belief that the universe and living organisms originate from specific acts of divine creation, as in the biblical account, rather than by natural processes such as evolution.” In other words, Creationism is the belief that life was created exactly the way the Bible says it was, by the will and power of God.

In the book of Genesis, we read how God created our world and all of its life in 7 days: On day 1, He created day and night (Genesis 1:3-5), day 2 He separated the waters to create the sky (Genesis 1:6-8), day 3 He created the sea and the land with all of its trees and plants (Genesis 1:9-13), day 4 He created the sun, moon, and stars (Genesis 1:14-19), day 5 He created the birds and the animals that live in the sea (Genesis 1:20-23), day 6 He created the animals that live on the land and mankind (Genesis 1:24-31), and on day 7, God rested (Genesis 2:1-2).
God and His Word are the source of Creationism and we are told in the Bible that both God and His Word are perfect and true.

Psalm 18:30 “As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless…”

Hebrews 6:18 “… it is impossible for God to lie...”

Now the world’s answers to our questions are far more complicated. First, the creation of the universe is explained by different theories but the most popular is the Big Bang Theory, which states that “
all of the current and past matter in the Universe came into existence at the same time, roughly 13.8 billion years ago. At this time, all matter was compacted into a very small ball with infinite density and intense heat called a Singularity. Suddenly, the Singularity began expanding, and the universe as we know it began.” There is no explanation given, however, for how the matter came into being or why the ball exploded, just that it did. Hmmm…

The world’s answer for how life was created has multiple complicated theories, as well, but to sum it up, matter changed from basic non-living stuff to living stuff. Then, the Theory of Evolution states that this living stuff gradually changed over time- so over billions of years, small living cells evolved (changed) into small creatures, then small creatures evolved into bigger creatures, then to animals and then specific animals (monkeys or apes) evolved into humans. It also says that our genes, not those we wear (lol) but cells that determine everything about us, change over time in order to improve us and help us survive in our world. In other words, if evolution is truly occurring, humans should continue to evolve into “better” creatures over billions of years. Of course, we will not be around to see if this is true, so there is no way to prove it.
As you can clearly see, both Creationism and Evolution require faith to accept as the answer to our questions regarding how the world and life began. It all depends on whom it is that you place your trust in. Do you trust the perfect God who does not lie or the world, which is made up of people who lie all of the time?

Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”

So, we have to ask ourselves- whose answer gives us confidence, hope, and assurance? The world’s, where matter just came into being and we evolved from monkeys or God’s, where He created all things by His power and created us in His very own image?

Genesis 1:26 “Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, …’”

Genesis 2:7 “Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”

If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, it is obvious what the answers are and whom we put our faith in. Thank you, Lord, for sharing your Truth and creating us and the beautiful world we live in!
