TODAY’S VERSE:

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

The dictionary defines peace as a state of tranquility or quiet; harmony in personal relations. That sounds nice, doesn’t it? Would you say that you have peace in your life? If so, when do you feel this peace? Is it when lying on a blanket outside, feeling the sun on your face, hearing the songs of the birds; or when curled up in a blanket by the fireplace, hearing the crackling of the fire? These are both peaceful situations, for sure, but if your soul is not at peace, they can only bring you physical comfort. So, what brings our souls peace?

Isaiah 53:5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

Jesus Christ is God who became a man. He lived among His people, was mistreated and rejected, then was judged for our sins, died, and rose again. He did all of this so we could be free from the power of sin and the death that results from it. He did all of this so we could be at peace with God.

Romans 5:1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ

Jesus’ work on the Cross reconciled us (restored peaceful relations) with God, the Father. Because of this, our souls can be at peace knowing that we are with Him, both now and forever.

Romans 8:38-39 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

God made a way to have peace with us and He also made a way for us to have peace with other people. We do this by showing them the love of God.

Romans 12:18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

It is not always easy to show love to and be at peace with others, especially if they mistreat us or those whom we love; but, if we read our Bible, pray, and allow the Holy Spirit to guide us every day- we can do it! Peace is another fruit of the Spirit, so if God is in control of our lives, peace will be seen in our lives.

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

When you are a child of God, your soul will be at peace because you have a forever relationship with the holy God of the Universe. There is nothing to fear, either in life or in death, because He will always love you and will always be with you. He gives us, His children, HIS peace. Wow!

Hebrews 13:5b I will never leave you nor forsake you.
