TODAY’S VERSE:
Genesis 1:26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
In prep school the kids were asked to explain the Trinity in their own words. They answered, “3 different parts of God, but they are one and all 100% God”. Wow! Great job, kids!
An online dictionary defines the Trinity as: The union of three persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) in one Godhead, or the threefold personality of the one Divine Being.
Most importantly, though, the Bible explains the Trinity this way. There is ONE God...
Exodus 20:2-3 “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. You shall have no other gods before Me.
...with three unique persons.
The 1st person is God, The Father.
1 John 3:1 See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
The 2nd person is God, the Son- Jesus Christ, the God-man.
Colossians 2:9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form.
The 3rd person is God, The Holy Spirit.
John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
They are equal and often named together.
Matthew 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
2 Corinthians 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.
It doesn’t seem to make sense, does it? The Bible says there is ONE God with THREE persons… but that doesn’t even seem possible! It is difficult for us to understand this because we are not the perfect, all-knowing God.
Isaiah 55:8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.
Because this does not make sense to our human minds, it becomes a perfect example of when we must have faith that what He says is true, regardless of how unbelievable it may seem.
Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
